How to replace the Lithium Ion CMOS battery in PC motherboard

CMOS battery for the new PC motherboard

When you get a new motherboard for your PC, the very first thing you will need to do is to insert a CMOS battery for it. This is especially true for PC motherboards from China, as exports of CMOS batteries in motherboards are forbidden.

How to replace the CMOS battery in your pc

The first thing to do is to switch off all power supplies to your PC motherboard. Then open up your PC and find the CMOS battery socket. Then flip out the battery from the socket and insert a new battery. If you are like me, building your own PC, then before you assemble anything find the CMOS battery socket and place a new CMOS battery into the socket. Most likely the CMOS battery for your PC is a CR 2032 lithium ion battery.

If you can’t find the CMOS battery on the motherboard, do look for a coin sized empty socket on the PC motherboard.
